MRI (MAGNET RESONANCE IMAGING)
MRI scanning is a painless scanning during which the person is asked to lie on the bed and using a powerful magnetic field the required area is scanned. MRI scan is
done to provide detailed images of almost any part of the body especially for tumours, blood flow within brain, blood vessels surrounding heart, injuries of joints.
A typical scan last for 15 to 60 minutes, depends on the size of the area being scanned and how many pictures are taken. Sometimes an injection of a special dye called a contrast agent is given to make the tissues clear in the scan. MRI scans are usually performed as an outpatient procedure and one can resume their normal
activities immediately after scan. Results of scanning is interpreted by a radiologist. The MRI department of TCH employ’s HITACHI AIRIS 0.3 TESLA MRI scanner
which is like “a” – open at both ends – through which the motorized bed passes. A combination of camera unit with dry film printer gives excellent quality images.
